UNS C84400 Bronze Flanges Manufacturer & Exporter
UNS C84400 is a leaded semi-red brass, often called valve composition, used extensively for valves, plumbing and general fittings where free machining and economy matter.

UNS C84400 — Leaded semi-red brass (Cu-Zn-Pb-Sn)
C84400 is the “81-3-7-9” alloy — nominally 81% copper, 3% tin, 7% lead and 9% zinc. Its higher zinc content makes it a more economical alloy than C83600, while retaining very good castability and machinability. It is traditionally known as valve composition because of its wide use in valve and plumbing castings.
UNS C84400 flanges are used on valves, plumbing runs, fittings and general-purpose industrial piping at moderate duty. Flanges are manufactured to customer drawings or the standard named in the enquiry, with documentation as agreed.

Physical values are typical reference values for the alloy family, not guaranteed values. Values vary according to applicable specification, material condition and customer requirements.
Manufacturing forms for C84400 flanges
- Sand castings machined to flange dimensions
- Threaded and plate-type flanges
- Special flanges to drawing
Machining characteristics
Like C83600, C84400 is a free-machining alloy, giving clean threads and well-finished faces at high cutting speeds. This favours threaded flanges and flange components made in repeat quantities.
Corrosion characteristics
The alloy is suitable for general atmospheric exposure and for many water and low-aggression industrial services. Because of its zinc content it is less suited than tin bronzes or aluminium bronzes to aggressive waters where dezincification could be a concern; the medium should be reviewed when selecting the grade.
C84400 contains lead; drinking-water regulations in the destination market must be checked before it is specified for potable systems.
Why specify C84400 for flanges
- Economical valve-grade composition
- Excellent machinability
- Good castability for thin-section and pressure-tight castings
- Long history of use in plumbing, valve and fitting castings
Plumbing, valve and fitting flanges
C84400 flanges are typically requested for plumbing and valve-end connections, flanged unions and fittings where the design pressure and temperature are moderate. For duties in seawater or in aggressive waters, a tin bronze or aluminium bronze is usually the better option — compare UNS C93200 or UNS C95800.
Custom C84400 flanges
Non-standard drilling, special thickness or custom bores can be produced to your drawing. See custom and special flanges or send a drawing through the enquiry form.
C84400 flanges we manufacture
- Threaded / Screwed FlangesThreaded flanges connect to pipe through an internal thread, avoiding welding at the joint.
- Plate FlangesPlate flanges are flat rings with a bore and a bolt-hole pattern.
- Blind FlangesBlind flanges are solid discs used to close the end of a pipe, valve or pressure vessel nozzle.
- Slip-On FlangesSlip-on flanges are machined from bronze and copper-alloy grades so that the pipe slides into the bore and is secured by fillet welding or brazing, depending on material and procedure..
- Custom / Special FlangesSend your drawing, sample or specification.
- All flange typesSlip-on, threaded, blind, socket-weld, lap joint, plate, reducing, loose and custom.
Inspection and testing
Dimensional and visual inspection are applied to all orders, with material identification and chemistry or mechanical testing as specified in the order. Certificates such as an MTC are issued as agreed at order stage. See Quality.
