UNS C93200 Bronze Flanges Manufacturer & Exporter

UNS C93200 is a leaded tin bronze widely used where free machining, good pressure tightness in castings and bearing behaviour matter more than very high strength.

Material overview

UNS C93200 — Leaded tin bronze (Cu-Sn-Pb-Zn)

C93200 is the alloy most people mean by “83-7-7-3” — roughly 83% copper with about 7% tin, 7% lead and 3% zinc. It is classed as a high-leaded tin bronze. The lead is present as discrete particles that improve machinability and give the alloy its well-known bearing performance, and it also helps sand castings seal against minor porosity.

As a flange material, UNS C93200 is selected for general industrial piping, pump and equipment connections, and fabricated assemblies where the flange has to be machined accurately — face, bore, thread, drilling — and the service does not demand the strength or seawater performance of the aluminium bronzes. We manufacture C93200 bronze flanges to customer drawings and to the dimensional standard named in your enquiry.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing forms for C93200 flanges

  • Sand castings machined to flange dimensions
  • Centrifugal or continuous-cast tube/bar stock machined into flanges, where the specification and size allow
  • Plate-type, threaded, blind, slip-on and special flanges to drawing

Machining characteristics

C93200 machines readily, producing short broken chips, and tolerates the repeated facing, boring, threading and drilling operations a flange needs. Good machinability is one of the main reasons it is chosen for threaded and precision-faced flanges.

Corrosion

Corrosion characteristics

C93200 has good resistance to atmospheric exposure and to many fresh-water and neutral aqueous services. Like other tin bronzes it is not the usual first choice for fast-flowing seawater, strongly oxidising or ammonia-bearing media; those services are normally handled by aluminium bronze or nickel aluminium bronze.

The alloy contains lead. Where a flange will be used in drinking-water systems, the applicable lead-content regulation for that market must be checked before this grade is specified. We do not represent C93200 as lead-free.

Advantages

Why specify C93200 for flanges

  • Excellent machinability for accurate faces, bores and threads
  • Good bearing and anti-seizing behaviour for equipment-mounted flanges
  • Good castability and pressure tightness in sand castings
  • Cost-effective compared with aluminium bronzes for non-severe service

Joining and fabrication notes

Leaded bronzes such as C93200 are not normally fusion-welded. Flanges in this grade are therefore usually specified as threaded, bolted-on or brazed/soldered assemblies. If your design depends on a particular joining method, state it in the enquiry so the flange type and finish can be agreed up front.

Typical enquiry details for C93200 flanges

  • Flange type and standard or drawing number
  • Nominal size, pressure class or drilling pattern
  • Facing (flat face, raised face or custom) and thread form if applicable
  • Casting route, if you have a preference (sand, centrifugal, continuous)
  • Required test certificate type and any third-party inspection

Inspection and testing

Dimensional and visual inspection are applied to all orders, with material identification and chemistry or mechanical testing as specified in the order. Certificates such as an MTC are issued as agreed at order stage. See Quality.
